The First Signs And What To Do
No, it is NOT a pretty picture of the prostate - just one of the many elements like fruit and vegetables that play a key role in prostate nutrition.
Often men are extremely ignorant about the prostate gland. They are not quite sure where it is.There are fears because it is so inaccessible and therefore better forgotten ! So when men begin to suffer from an enlarged prostate there are often some misconceptions that are hard to erase. Lots of men will leave it till the problem gets really bad before they will bother to do anything about it.
First off, it is probable that if you are male between the ages of 55 to say about 75, there is a 50% chance that you are likely to suffer from an enlarged prostate and that grows with the advance of years. If the gland grows, it does not mean cancer, necessarily, because many many cases are just simply an enlarged gland which is simply caused by testosterone converting into amother hormone called dihydrotestosterone which causes the gland to get bigger. It is as simple as that and really a natural part of getting old. If we could find some way of inhibiting the growth of dihydrotestosterone, then all our problems would be solved.
I asked a doctor friend of mine what was wrong with using the muscles around the neck of the bladder when trying to void it and he told me that the bladder will become muscular and therefore lose its elasticity and that is not good for efficient urination.
Most men will run a mile from a prostate exam as the only access is through the rectum and therefore it has uncomfortable connotations for most of the male population while homosexuals will have fewer problems here.
The DRE (digital rectal exam) has been so hyped up by comedians that it has become bit of a joke.(LOL). Actually, it is just inserting a latex covered lubricated finger into the rectum to feel the gland through the rectal wall. It is actually separated by this wall but the doctor can feel the surface and can get a fair idea whether it is enlarged or not. He will also be looking for lumps or some irregular surface which could suggest an unusual growth.
All you need to do is then to get a PSA test done and that will show if there are any cancerous cells in the area although this test is by no means foolproof and can give false negative readings but it is the best one available at the moment.

It is really a shame people don't really take nutrition seriously. It is the best preventative in many cases.
